Izbjegličkoj krizi čini se i dalje nema kraja, a horde ljudi se gotovo nezaustavljivo kreću prema središnjoj Europi iz dana u dan. Doduše, zadnjih tjedan dana svjedočimo primjeni strožih pravila propuštanja izbjeglica, pa mnogi od njih ostaju na makedonskoj granici jer nemaju potrebne papire ili ne dolaze iz ratom zahvaćenih područja. Većinu nas to baš i ne dira pretjerano. Živimo svoje živote, vodimo svoje brige, i pravimo se da izbjeglička kriza ne postoji, tim više jer je teško tu razlučiti tko su izbjeglice, tko migranti, a tko prikriveni teroristi (jer nemojmo se zavaravati, njih itekako ima među tim ljudima). Ali bez obzira na sve to, istina je ta da manje-više svi ti ljudi tragaju za boljim životom, a vrlo je vjerojatno da velika većina njih u konačnici neće pronaći sreću i zadovoljstvo. A neke bi možda mogla zadesiti i mnogo gora sudbina, kao primjerice likove nezavisne kanadske triler drame Kidnap Capital redatelja i scenarista Felipea Rodrigueza.
Kidnap Capital je priča Manolou, imigrantu iz Meksika koji zajedno sa svojom trudnom ženom Elenom želi prebjeći u SAD. Kao i tisuće imigranata prije njih, Manolo i Elena unajme “Kojota”, osobu koja šverca ljude preko granice. Ali ispostavi se da su oni nabasali na krivog “Kojota”, koji ih preda skupini kriminalac umjesto da ih sigurno prevede preko granice i odvede u bolju budućnost. Zatočeni sa još 15-ak uhvaćenih i zatočenih imigranata, Manolo i Elena se nađu u gotovo bezizlaznoj situaciji. Nitko ne zna gdje se oni nalaze, ako bi nekako i uspjeli pobjeći, nitko im ne bi mogao pomoći, a policija bi ih uhitila i deportirala natrag u Meksiko. Jedini izlaz iz te situacije je moguć ukoliko zamole svoje bližnje u Meksiku da plate 2800$ za njihovo puštanje, ili da uzvrate svojim otmičarima i sami se oslobode.
U glavnim ulogama su Johnathan Sousa, Michelle Arvizu, Paulino Nunes, Lara Gilchrist, Pedro Miguel Arce, Michael Reventar, Juan Carlos Velis, Carlos Gonzalez-Vio, te još mnogi, mnogi drugi. Kidnap Capital je premijerno prikazan prošle godine na San Diego Film Festivalu gdje je osvojio i nagradu žirija, a od tada je bio (i biti će još) prikazan na još nekoliko drugih festivala. Službena premijera bi se trebala održati tijekom 2016., ali točan datum iste još nije poznat.

Like thousands of other Illegal Central American migrants at the northern border of Mexico, Manolo and his pregnant wife Elena decided to hire a Coyote (a human smuggler) and pay him the last of their money to guide them on a safe cross to their final destination in ”El Norte”, where they can finally start their new lives. But they chose the wrong Coyote. He brings them across the border to a desert spot where gang members wait for them. They beat them, rob then strip them naked before blindfolding and tossing them into a van. That is where KIDNAP CAPITAL begins. Manolo gets locked up in a small room with 15 other unlucky migrants, turned “Pollos” in the atrocious but real world of human kidnaping rings inside unsuspecting residential neighbourhoods everywhere across Phoenix, Arizona. Nobody knows where they are. They don’t exist and they are easy to dispose of if proven not to be of use to their captors. Even if they managed to escape, they would have nobody to go to for help – the police would arrest them and deport them.  It’s soon evident that Manolo, and all 15 men, are far from having to deal with that problem. Escape is improbable, and their captor, Wyler, is asking an impossible $2800 for their release. The “Pollos” quickly understand what his tactic is: If torture doesn’t make them beg relatives or friends on the phone to wire the money, then Wyler will torture those same relatives through the phone by making them listen to the dying rattles of their imprisoned loved one, until they give in and send the cash.  Soon, Wyler’s own world is crumbling with the outside pressure, the levels of violence rise abruptly. Manolo, Elena, and everyone trapped in this hidden hell must find the sheer will power again that once made them leave their homes for a better life. They ultimately fight the odds and unite, to fight back.
